The University Agricultural Park was established on 1 December 2001 as a platform to support teaching, research in the field of agriculture as well as provide services for campus residents and the community. Covering an area of 570 hectares covering the Serdang campus of 407 hectares and Ladang Puchong ( 162 hectares). Meanwhile, the University Agricultural Park (Bintulu campus) has an area of 714,135 hectares. The main activities at UPMKB are the teaching and research of crops, livestock, aquaculture and agricultural engineering.
TPU started as Plantation Division, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia which has been functioning since 1971 to provide student practical training and provide services to the campus such as transportation, cleaning and others. In 1998, the Plantation Division was restructured into a University Research Park, Universiti Putra Malaysia whose function was to provide research facilities and services in the field of agriculture. In line with the desire of the State government and the University to uphold the agricultural sector, the name of the University Research Park was changed to the University Agricultural Park
