Serdang, 1 June 2021 - University Agriculture Park (TPU) has successfully registered a bellfruit variety with registration number E7 into the National Crop Variety Register, Department of Agriculture Malaysia which came into effect on 28 January 2021 with the name known as "Delima Putra".
The National Crop Variety Register, Department of Agriculte Malaysia is very important for the purpose of recording the inventory of genetic resources available in Malaysia and to be the official reference source of the country.
Based on the opportunities and advantages available, TPU has taken this initiative. The Crop Quality Control Division, Department of Agriculture Malaysia has already visited on 14 January and 5 August 2020 to characterize and inspect the authenticity of the bellfruit variety.
After the characterization and authenticity inspection, the report from the inspection was presented to the National Crop Variety Registration Technical Committee by the Characterizing Officer before giving approval for registration.
On 16 October 2020, the National Crop Variety Registration Technical Committee was satisfied with the results of the evaluation of the variety, and met all the conditions.
This is the first time UPM has achieved this success and at the same time TPU has become a pioneer in registering existing crop varieties and having commercial value into the National Crop Variety Register. This success and recognition proves TPU is committed in upholding agriculture in the university in line with the aspirations of the university and the country.
Congratulations to Universiti Putra Malaysia, especially to University Agriculture Park for the effort. Hopefully TPU will continue to succeed and continue to play an important role in helping UPM achieve the goals and agenda of national agriculture.
